I have actually also painted other things...

... just not 'models'.

Back before Warpstorm I was lucky enough to purchase a set of terrain from Wargames Tournaments, that included free worldwide shipping.

Unfortunately it arrived after the tournament so I set about undercoating and assembling.

This was my first MDF terrain and I really did not appreciate the time and effort it would take (optimism bias off the chart). However perseverance, some advice from Peter Dunn on sprays, and I got there in the end. I did do a spot of weathering as well.

With this product I have found that despite a desire to break it down and reassemble it every time, the practicalities of this are unrealistic (also some parts don't lock/wedge together tightly enough so require constant adjusting). So next purchase is some glue that works on painted surfaces and two 60L containers to store it.

This is a 6'x3' setup

One of the things this set was lacking was some LoS blocking terrain - enter Jake Easton who whipped me up some 6"x3" containers. Time to call that done.

Will be a good table to play over for Kill Team (or Necromunda) too.

Terrain for Call to Arms

While I am not playing at Call to Arms this year, I did offer Craig Stewart (the umpire and regular tournament attendee) 3 tables worth of terrain for the players to fight over.

After Maelstrom I purchased some more terrain. I had been eyeing the Tempestus Firebase that had been for sale at Livewire Games what seemed like forever, and it was still available so I finally pushed 'buy' and it appeared a couple of days later on my doorstep. Must have been fate.

A lot of guns. Death to the enemies of Mankind!
The box is made up of an Aquila Strongpoint, 2x Firestorm Redoubts, a Vengeance Weapon Battery, and an Imperial Defence Emplacement. You get a lot of plastic!

The only things I had to watch for is that some parts were slightly warped so required lots of rubber bands. that there was a lot of mold lines to clean off, and whoever disassembles them off the sprue at the factory doesn't necessarily do it with the care and attention most gamers would... oh well, battle damage I guess...

It's now had an undercoat and a couple of shots of spray paint (enough for the weekend - detail later). Next challenge is to find something to store it in...

My goodness that's big...

... HEY, this is a wargaming blog. I'm talking about the Fortress of Redemption. OK?
Size is everything...
Basically, it takes up a 2'x2' piece of terrain all by itself!

Terrain update

I have been busy, when I have had a moment or two to spare, trying to build all my 40k terrain before Maelstrom VIII.

Below are some pictures of where I have got to. Apart from accessories (lights etc.) in bags, I have used nearly all of my Sector Imperialis pieces.

With the addition of some Basilica Administratum pieces...

I looooove the Shrine of the Aquila

I had inherited some extra bits so a 1.5 sized Bastion was required!

I had a few of the Mierce Miniatures 60mm bases that I started putting some scatter terrain on, which worked well.
Need more 60mm bases...

Happy to take suggestions as to what else to build from the scraps!

All that is left to build is a Fortress of Redemption... this week sometime.
