Maelstrom XI June 09/10 2018 army lists released
Righto, less than a week to go. The Round 1 draw has been sent to the participants, and the lists can be found here
Remember information and results also posted to the Facebook event page here.
All the administrivia has been completed, I am picking up trophies this week, all that remains is setting up the hall then watching people push their painted minis around all weekend.
Hopefully once Maelstrom has completed I can get back to regular painting updates. I have painted a grand total of zero miniatures this year and if I am to get my proverbial together for FoB in September I better pull finger(s).
On the plus side, at least GW has announced the Space Wolf Codex is to be released... next-ish. Depending on the Ork codex.

Maelstrom XI June 09/10 2018 - Update #2
Ok, with the new FAQ out there needs to be a slight amendment to the way Composition will be scored at Maelstrom.
Composition is now scored as follows (amending the players pack):
Less than 2 months to go!
Edit: Also!
Also... to provide some continuity with FoB and also support for our Drukhari brethren:
Q. There is a three detachment restriction in place for Maelstrom XI. How does that interact with the Drukhari Raiding Force rule?
A. The Drukhari Raiding Force of multiple Patrol Detachments can replace one of your three allowable Detachments.
Composition is now scored as follows (amending the players pack):
Composition
(25pts)
Maelstrom XI includes Army
Composition as a component which is worth up to 25pts towards your overall
score.
The points awarded break down as follows, based on your army list:
- · 1x Battalion or Brigade Detachment from a single parent Codex where each unit contains all Faction Keywords (e.g. Ultramarines Chapter where all units will have the Faction Keywords IMPERIUM, ADEPTUS ASTARTES, ULTRAMARINES): 25pts
- · 1x Battalion or Brigade Detachment from a single parent Codex that contains at least one Faction keyword in common (e.g. Adeptus Astartes): 22pts
- · 1x Detachment of any sort from a single parent Codex: 21pts
- · Any combination of 2+ Detachments from a single parent Codex (e.g. Codex Drukhari): 21pts
·Battalion Detachment with a single Faction keyword (e.g. Adeptus Astartes): 20pts·1x Detachment of any sort from multiple source Codex/Indexes: 18pts- · Any combination of 2+ Detachments from multiple source Codex/Indexes: 19pts
Less than 2 months to go!

The Road to Fields of Blood NZGT 2018... Part 1
Well, having registered for the 40k New Zealand Grand Tournament, as mentioned in a previous post I have had to turn my thoughts toward what to take.
I think I may take Space Wolves.
One of the things that got me heading more surely down this path was going back to my old NZGT (and Natcon, Sydney GT etc.) 3rd Ed lists from 2000 to 2004 for some inspiration.
For instance, this was my 2002 Space Wolf NZGT army (2nd or 3rd place I think...?):
In old numbers and percentagy stuff, it came out as this:
So curious, I went and pointed them up for 8th Ed.
Surprisingly, they come in around the same points. Taking some liberties with weapons loadouts but trying to stay relatively true to the original, this is what the above looks like:

So curious, I went and pointed them up for 8th Ed.
++ Battalion Detachment +3CP (Imperium - Space Wolves) [59 PL, 930pts] ++
+ HQ +
Wolf Lord [5 PL, 100pts]: 3. Tenacious Survivor, Combi-melta, Frost sword, Krakenbone Sword, Warlord

. Wolf Scout with Heavy Weapon: Meltagun
+ Dedicated Transport +
Rhino [4 PL, 74pts]: 2x Storm bolter
++ Spearhead Detachment +1CP (Imperium - Space Wolves) [27 PL, 540pts] ++
+ HQ +
Wolf Guard Battle Leader [5 PL, 72pts]: Frost axe, Storm bolter
+ Heavy Support +
Long Fangs [7 PL, 170pts]
. Long Fang: Lascannon
. Long Fang: Lascannon
. Long Fang: Missile launcher
. Long Fang: Missile launcher
. Long Fang Pack Leader: Boltgun and Bolt Pistol, Chainsword
Predator [9 PL, 192pts]: Storm bolter, Twin lascannon
. Two Lascannons: 2x Lascannon
Whirlwind [6 PL, 106pts]: Storm bolter, Whirlwind vengeance launcher
++ Total: [86 PL, 1542pts] ++
So that looks pretty similar, and probably a good base to work off (albeit a lot to paint...)
Any thoughts comments or suggestions for upping this to 1750 would be appreciated.
I imagine the extra 250pts might come down to a unit of Wulfen vs a unit of Thunderwolves (with some tweaking of the units i.e. drop a plasma gun in the Grey Hunters for a Wolf Guard leader with a combi-plasma if I want +1Ld, also maybe drop some Power Fists for Power Axes, that sort of thing... and goodbye combi-melta/meltaguns in general).
Interesting exercise though!
